Mr. Huang Yi Attends the 13th International Symposium on CBM/CMM and Shale Gas in China

On October 24-25, 2013, the 13th International Symposium on CBM/CMM and Shale Gas in China, jointly sponsored by the State Administration of Coal Mine Safety and the USEPA and undertaken by CCII was held in Beijing. Mr. Huang Yi, press spokesman, former CPC group member and chief engineer of the State Administration of Work Safety attended the meeting and made an important speech. Ms. Felicia Ruiz from USEPA, Mr. Phillip Gatins from the American Embassy in China, heads of the relevant State Administration of Work Safety and State Administration of Coal Mine Safety and CCII leaders Mr. Huang Shengchu, Mr. Lin Bing and Mr. Liu Wenge attended the meeting. A total of over 130 leaders, experts and representatives from foreign embassies in China, research institutes, coal enterprises and foreign companies were present at the meeting.

Mr. Huang Yi pointed out in his speech that gas prevention and control was the top priority in coal mine safety. The State Administration of Work Safety and the State Administration of Coal Mine Safety has firmly implemented the Opinions on Further Accelerating the Extraction and Utilization of CBM/Coal Mine Gas and Opinions on Further Strengthening the Work Safety of Coal Mines issued by the State Council, further strengthened the gas prevention and control in coal mines, continued to improve the institutions and mechanism, intensified policy guidance, increased safety input, upgraded the science and technology level and took effective measures to prevent major work safety accidents. He emphasized that CBM/CMM drainage and utilization was the essential way to prevent gas accidents in coal mines, and joint effort of all fields, especially international cooperation and exchange, was needed to further enhance mine gas prevention and CBM/CMM development. He sincerely welcomed government agencies, international institutions and businesses to work with partners in China and make greater contribution towards the development of CBM/CMM, the improvement of coal mine safety and the protection of the global environment.

President Huang Shengchu made a remark at the opening ceremony and a presentation entitled Perspectives and Challenges of CBM/CMM Industry in China at the meeting. Participants had warm discussions with respect to the development prospect and utilization potential of CBM/CMM and shale gas projects in China, CMM drainage and utilization, gas prevention and control in coal mines, comprehensive utilization of low-concentration CMM, and policies on CBM/CMM development and utilization. The symposium served as a good impetus to the development of the CBM/CMM and shale gas industry and also offered opportunities for CCII to open up more international cooperation projects.
